| Nosferatu is an adaptation of the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker and the writer of the film, Henrik Galeen, has changed some elements of the novel. First, the main location of the action happening in London, England to Wisbourg, Germany. This change, presumably to appeal to local spectators, led to the substitution of names of all the characters in this story. Vlad Dracula becomes Orlok Nosferatu (the German word for vampire) and Jonathan Harker became Thomas Hutter. These changes are mainly cosmetic but Galeen took an important freedom, a freedom that has influenced all vampire movies since 1922: the sunlight can kill a vampire. |
